Beginner Modern Technique

January 14 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 11:30am on Sunday, repeating until January 28, 2018

This class is perfect for anyone who wants to add more varied, functional and FUN movement to their fitness routine. If you’ve ever thought: “Well, I’m not really a dancer.” Or if you’re interested in dance as a discipline, but have no idea where to start: This is the class for you. We’re going to start from square one.

We will pull from various techniques to bring students a rich classroom experience, working to build an understanding of the concepts that drive each movement. Each week we will focus on one of the fundamental principles of modern dance: contraction/release, breath, opposition, alignment, shift of weight. Class starts with traditional floorwork, progresses into standing work, then moves to travelling phrases across the floor, and culminates in a phrase that explores a full range of dynamic possibilities. Exercises are designed to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and musicality. The skills students develop in modern dance can easily carry over to work in other disciplines.

Beginning Modern Technique is for anyone who wants formal dance training in a fun, supportive environment. Come to dance for the first time or get reconnected with the basics! All are welcome.

Where: FlyLoft, Studio 3
(117 N Boston)
Cost: $18.75 drop-in or $15 with Class Value Card
